January 29, 2014 American Tennis with chuck kriese interviews Veteran Coach Mike Napoli; Mike is currently the coach at Ave Maria College, but has worked in every aspect of coaching over the past 40 years. Mike gives a very in-depth account of the Junior college tennis team situation in Northern California. In the 1970s and 80s, northern Cal. was the hub of tennis activity and great Junior college teams. There were 70 excellent teams that fostered training and a great tennis learning environment for many years. Today, only 33 teams are left, and are almost entirely made up of international players. Mike talks about the dismantling of one of the most fertile training grounds for American Tennis development being dismantled over the past 20 years. These opportunities no longer exist for our US players and he speaks passionately about the down-swing in American tennis as having much to do with the overload of foreign recruitment to our colleges. This very passionate interview gives great insight.
