Dr. Mike Kernodle is Coach Chuck Kriese's guest on 'American Tennis' February 4, 2014. Dr. Kernodle is a widely recognized expert in many fields that include Kinesiology, Sports Psychology, Motor Learning and Motor Development. He is also a former Collegiate Coach of Championship teams and now serves on multiple professional boards that influence the child-athlete. Mike speaks out plainly and quite bluntly about the changes that are taking place in college, professional and in many teaching practices of our US system. He believes that we have left many of the basic principles that had been fundamental practices in prior years. The dumbing down of teaching and coaching in our culture have lead to many very poor results and a great void in our educational tennis culture that may not be easy to return to. A very entertaining interview from one of the country's most knowledgeable educators.

January 29, 2014 American Tennis with chuck kriese interviews Veteran Coach Mike Napoli; Mike is currently the coach at Ave Maria College, but has worked in every aspect of coaching over the past 40 years. Mike gives a very in-depth account of the Junior college tennis team situation in Northern California. In the 1970s and 80s, northern Cal. was the hub of tennis activity and great Junior college teams. There were 70 excellent teams that fostered training and a great tennis learning environment for many years. Today, only 33 teams are left, and are almost entirely made up of international players. Mike talks about the dismantling of one of the most fertile training grounds for American Tennis development being dismantled over the past 20 years. These opportunities no longer exist for our US players and he speaks passionately about the down-swing in American tennis as having much to do with the overload of foreign recruitment to our colleges. This very passionate interview gives great insight.

The Fundamentals of Coaching Tennis Champions are explored as Coach Richard Reyes explains the old fashioned way to bring young and talented players along through 'tough love' training. This is about 'meat and potatoes' in the world of USA tennis. Reyes talks about some of his players journeys through hardship and successes and how a coach should treat both in order to get best results out of his players.. This is a great show for both parents and coaches to listen to. It reinforces fundamentals of teaching that all know in their hearts, but which we don't often see these days of commercial tennis and surface coaching.
